A short distance away from downtown Colonial Beach, just over a mile, Monroe's Birthplace will soon open as a tourist destination. This attraction is yet another on an impressive list of historic places all within striking distance of our visitor friendly town.
This April, just in time for the 250th celebration of the anniversary of James Monroe's birth, the site will open to visitors.
The Visitor's Center is expected to house exhibits depicting wide ranging aspects of Monroe's life and passion for service. The Visitor's Center will be operated by the James Monroe Memorial Foundation. Plans are underway to add a replica of the Monroe farmhouse to the site. The road and parking area at the site have been upgraded to accomodate anxious visitors.
James Monroe was born on April 28, 1758. He was the fifth president of the United States and served two terms in that office. Monroe held several state and national offices over a period of nearly fifty years.
We salute one of our own and invite you to join us by visiting our newest attraction.
