During the summer, weekends are filled with special events such as Market Days, Bluemont Concerts, The Rod Run, The Potomac River Festival and of course the regionally talked-about annual 4th of July celebration with show-stopping fireworks. The rest of the year the beach hosts everything from 2nd Friday Art Walks to The Boardwalk Arts and Craft Show and a couple of Rockfish Tournaments.
Kicking off the 2007 summer season, the 56th annual Potomac River Festival was a huge success. We enjoyed an expanded festival, made new friends and celebtrated with many of our old friends as well. Many visitors as well as local residents relived a portion of the 400th anniversary of Captain John Smith’s famous 1608 Chesapeake expedition. A reproduction of John Smith’s boat, The Shallop, along with its modern-day crew, arrived during the Festival and reminded us all about the importance of the Chesapeake Bay and the importance of our region.
Well the fall festivals may be behind us, but the memories of a wonderful season linger. A few of the major events for the 2008 season are already scheduled. We will be adding those to the calendar of events over the next few days. As we hunker down to face the chill and make plans for a busy, fun-filled season next year.....let us remember that there are wonderful activities on tap for the upcoming holiday season. The annual Quilt Show, the Winter Festival and the Christmas Concert are just a few.
Remember, we have a special event for everyone.
Note: See the calendar on the home page for 2007 - 2008 events.
